The Scarred One

Description

I had been studying cloned Aerodactyl in the lab for a good decade before they really started to affect me. I am ashamed to admit that despite my adoration of these prideful ancient Pokémon, I had never stopped to think how we were affecting them, and it took being moved out into the field to do so.
A small group of Aerodactyl had been released on a trial basis, though they had quickly scattered to the four winds, many turned up as illegally captured Pokémon, others never turned up at all: many due to being out competed by wild Charizard and other high predators of the mountain regions.
The old scarred one that I was sent to observe was obviously proof that Aerodactyl came to blows with their fiery neighbours.

I was intrigued and delighted beyond my wildest dreams to get the chance to observe Aerodactyl in the wild, and his behaviour was so very different to what we'd seen before that I just knew my reports would be of utmost importance.
I remained in the mountains even through winter. Me, my Fearow and my Monferno (with whom I would have both lost track of Aerodactyl and frozen to death).

As spring rolled around I witnessed Aerodactyl bellow and trumpet out over the mountain range, at first it was a glorious new discovery, but as the days, then weeks, went by, I forsook my notes and sketches for just watching him.
It broke my heart to watch the scarred male call out again and again, day in, day out, for a mate that would never come.

That was when I knew what I had to do.
Alas, though I did eventually persuade the financiers and leaders of our mission to start up a breeding program up in the mountains, it came too late for that first Aerodactyl, who had proved wily and tough enough to survive without Ranger help.

I spent most of my time in the mountains, and he soon became used to my presence. I was honoured to be allowed so close to him, without him considering me food.

I discovered he liked the song 'Baker Street' and we would often sing together -though I fear he had the better voice- with him claiming the instrumentals.

One evening as I made my way back down the mountain I was puzzled by his large slinking shadow flowing down the cliffs behind me, and blushing terribly as I made my way into camp with the Pokémon as my shadow.

I was told I couldn't take him, and had to insist that I wasn't taking him, he was following me. Eventually they had to concede that that was the truth and Aerodactyl and I decided that maybe it was just about time we left to see something of the world.

I obviously have a thing for Pokémon on rocks with dramatic lighting.

wow, fantastic piece of artwork and I love the little narrative that goes with it. :3 The dramatic lighting fits perfectly, and the silhouette's of the other Aerodactyl are great, too.
